Relay for Life 2013 planning meeting

Relay for Life 2013 is in the planning stages. The first meeting was held on Sept. 12. It was a rootbeer float social and much was accomplished. Planners went over the relay for life 2012 and discussed where improvements can be made for 2013.
The next meeting will be on Oct. 10 at the Castle Cafe in Huntington at 6 p.m. The theme will be Re-discovering Relay as the date is near Columbus Day. The event for 2013 will be discussed and the date will be planned as well as chairman picked for the various tasks to put on a relay.
Jessica Funk was the 2012 Relay Director in 2013 she will stay involved as the Bass tournament chairman, yard sale chairman and golf tournament chairman and in other ways. Judi Bishop was recently appointed to the state board for the American Cancer Society. She will stay involved with the local committee as an advisory member. Other commitee members include Gerry Stotler, luminary chairman, Susan Austin, Jerry Stotler, Emily Nielsen, Patsy Stoddard, publicity.
The relay committee has many spots for returning members and is looking for new enthusiastic members to push the Emery County Relay for Life to the next level of celebrating and remembering those with cancer.
Joyce Swaner is the manager for the Amercian Cancer Society for the Great West Division. She helps with the relay for life events in Carbon, Emery, Sevier, Millard and Sanpete counties.
Along with organizing the relay for 2013, Swaner talked about training for Relay for Life volunteers. The Salt Lake Relay summit will be held on Nov. 2-3 at the Salt Lake Sheraton. The theme is Making Hope Happen. It is a weekend of inspiration, motivation and innovation. The weekend is open to all volunteers.

This great training event includes strategic planning, breakout sessions, networking opportunities, food, fun and more. “If you’ve ever thought about volunteering for Relay for Life now is the time. We need you. From sending thank you cards to being our Event Chair, we have something you can contribute to.
