Sports: Emery volleyball

By GARY ARRINGTON Sports Writer

The Emery High volleyball team is in jeopardy of missing this season’s playoffs after losing three straight region contests. In the past couple of weeks, Emery has lost to South Sevier, Grand and San Juan in region 15 action and now the Spartans possess a 1-4 region record.
Richfield, currently ranked second in 2-A volleyball, leads the region with a 4-0 record and will play in Castle Dale next Tuesday night. South Sevier in currently ranked fifth in the state and will be in town tonight, Oct. 2 to play the Spartans. The Spartans final region contest will be at San Juan.
Emery need to be one of the top four teams in the region instead of the fifth place team that they currently are. They need to play well in all three of their final matches to really have a chance.
Region 15 is the top volleyball region in 2-A volleyball. For the past two seasons, all four state teams placed in the top eight with two teams playing for the championship.
