Students fundraise to construct a school in Belize

Emery High is filled with generous students with big ambitions and big dreams. You’ve heard of build a bear? so why not build a school? A school is a big undertaking, but not too big for students Spencer Fauver and Cassidy Labrum. They are raising funds to help build a school in the small town of Corozal, Belize. They will travel there this June to assist in building the school and are raising funds for building supplies.
So far, they have had two fundraisers. Emery High School for the past five weeks has been having a “School Helping A School” quarter drive and raised $954.74. The second fundraiser was selling Valentine cupcakes and singing telegrams to Emery and Carbon counties. They sold approximately 150 cupcakes and 30 singing telegrams from Ferron to Price and raised $1,275. This makes the total donations equal $2,229.74.
At one of the basketball games Jared Shakespaere dressed up like Cupid and danced while the fans threw money on a blanket. They collected $100 from this activity.
Labrum and Fauver said, “We are thrilled with the generosity of everyone. Our goal is to raise $4600 by mid-April, so as you can see, we are lacking $2370. Anyone who didn’t get the opportunity to participate in either of these fundraisers who wish to learn more about the project and contribute to it may visit HEFY.org (under Donate) and put Spencer Fauver and/or Cassidy Labrum in the “Fundraiser line.” If you choose to put both names on the donation, the credit will be divided evenly between us. These donations are tax deductible. If you would rather, you may also contact us directly to donate.
“Thank you to all those who helped in any way with these projects. We especially want to thank Lorie Huntington, Emery High School students, Principal Larry Davis, Bobbie Hymas, Paula Gordon, Amanda Lake, Shelley Jones, Jessica Labrum and Doll’s costumes in Cleveland. This community has such a big heart. We have been truly overwhelmed with the generosity of everyone,” said Labrum and Fauver.
Belize is a country located on the northeastern coast of Central America. It is the only country in the area where English is the official language, although Kriol and Spanish are more commonly spoken. Belize is bordered to the north by Mexico, to the south and west by Guatemala and to the east by the Caribbean Sea.
