Steven L. Shreve died suddenly at age 55 on March 1, 2013.
Steve was born in Monticello Utah, on Sept. 23, 1957 to Jean Brownell and Ben Shreve but was raised by Bill Ayers who he always called “POPS”, he is survived by his wife Vickie Shreve of Ferron, his sister Theresa Bonanno (Frank) Olathe, KS, Roxanne Green (Von) Prescott Valley, Ariz, Pam Winters (Russ) Prescott Valley, Ariz, and Ruby Hall, Phoenix, Ariz; his children Andrea Washburn Salt Lake City, Utah, Tom Sawyer (Shantel) Vernal, Utah, Nicole Shreve Phoenix, Ariz; Janine (Stephen) Smith Salt Lake City, Utah and Desiree Villescas (Dave), Heber, Utah; Grandchildren: Austin, Clay, Sierra, and Serena Sawyer, Logan Ellington, Junior Greer, and Sophilla Villescas and Lillian Smith. Preceded in death by his mother Jean Ayers, father Bill Ayers, brothers Bobbie and David Montanye, grandson Gabriel Villescas.
Steve married Vickie Sawyer on March 21, 1987 in Clawson, Utah. Steve always said that they went together like “Peas and Carrots”
He was devoted to his family. He was a wonderful end of life caretaker for several of the people in his life. He and Vickie provided loving care for her father and his step-father during their last years.
He was well known in the Ferron area and beyond as someone that could be counted on in times of need, crisis, illness, or if you wanted to have a good time. Steve’s love of nature and the underdog were reflected in the numerous strays that he brought home, both domesticated (and in the case of a skunk) otherwise. He was known to extend his wings around those in need, and help guide them. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, going out on the desert, and working on projects around the house. He had a green thumb and spent many hours tinkering in the yard.
Steve was a tireless employee devoting himself wholeheartedly to any project to which he was assigned. He worked in the coal industry for 23 years, currently worked for Caterpillar out of Huntington, Utah. Anyone working with him knew that they could count on his expertise and professionalism to get the job done. It was this hard-working attitude that earned him the respect of his peers and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Steven Shreve Memorial Fund at the Wells Fargo Bank in Castle Dale. All donations will be given to the Castle Dale Food bank, to continue Steve’s tradition of helping those around him.
A memorial service will be held at the San Rafael Museum on Saturday March 9 at 11 a.m. arrangements are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guest book and share memories of Steve at www.fausettmortuary.com
