The Emery High Lady Spartan softball team played six games last week and won four of those games. Emery hosted region-foe Grand and defeated that team 9-8. Emery then traveled to Delta and defeated the Rabbits 7-6. On Saturday, Emery traveled to Payson and played four games.
Emery played one 2-A team, two 3-A teams and one 4-A team in the Payson tournament. Emery first played Cedar and lost 9-3. That game was followed by a game against Westlake which the Spartans won 8-4. Emery then lost to host Payson 9-1 and ended the day by playing South Sevier and defeating the Rams 12-4.
Against Grand, Emery scored the first run in the bottom of the first inning to lead 1-0. Both teams scored a run in the third inning and Grand scored a run in the fourth inning and the score was tied 2-2. Rain delayed the game several times up to this point.
Emery scored four times in the fifth inning and three more times in the sixth inning while giving up just a single run in the top of the sixth. Emery led 9-3 going into the final inning. That inning made the Spartan fans nervous but the Spartans held on, got the third out and won the tough region contest.
Jeridi Price got the win while giving up nine hits throughout the game including two doubles, a triple and a home run. The Emery batters also got nine hits throughout the game which included a double by Auminee Bennett, a triple by Price and a home run by Bryton Hess.
At Delta, Emery opened the scoring by scoring three runs in the top of the second inning. Delta responded by scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning to grab the lead. Delta added another run the next inning to lead 5-3 after four innings.
Emery then held Delta to a single run in the bottom of the fifth inning the rest of the way while the Lady Spartans added two runs in the fourth inning and two more runs in the fifth inning to regain the lead at 7-6. Neither team was able to score in the sixth or seventh innings. Emery will travel to South Sevier this Tuesday and will then host San Juan on Friday.
