Emery and Green River track participate at Carbon

The Carbon High School Farm Bureau Invitational track meet was held Saturday at the Carbon High track and both Emery County high schools were there to participate. The Emery girls’ team finished in second place behind Stansbury High School. The Emery boys finished in seventh place with region foes Richfield, Grand and San Juan all finishing in the top five with the Wildcats winning the track meet.
The Emery girls finished the day with four first place finishes. Senior Hailee Rogers led the Spartans with wins in both the 200 meter race and the 400 meter race. Sophomore Ashlynn Allred, out the past couple of weeks with a leg injury, returned to action and won the 100 meters in 12.71 seconds, a top 10 time in the state of Utah this season. Rogers’ times were 27.25 in the 200 and 1:00.64 in the 400.
Both Hailee and Ashlynn were members of the relay team that also took first place. The 4 x 100 relay team finished with a time of 51.02, less than a second off the school record. The second place team finished in 52.73. The first leg was ran by Paytn Jeffs, the second was ran by Rogers, the third leg was ran by Bayler Griffin and Allred ran the final leg.
Senior Brenden Jorgensen had a good day for the Emery boys’ team. Jorgensen finished second in the 300 meter hurdles, fourth in the 110 meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump. In the 110 meter hurdles, Ammon Mitchell of San Juan and Lance Allen of Richfield had the second and third best time in the state this track season. Mitchell is the defending 2-A state champion.
The Emery girls’ 4 x 400 relay team of Rogers, Kelsie Cox, Jessica Guymon and Blayr Jeffs finished second and the sprint medley relay team finished third.
Other members of the girls’ team that placed were Bayler Griffin in third place in the 100 meters, Kelsie Cox in third place in the 300 meter hurdles, Jessica Guymon in sixth place in the 800 meters and third in the long jump, Paytn Jeffs third in the high jump and fourth in the long jump, Bailey Rasmussen seventh in the shot put and Kira Oelmann eighth in the javelin.
For the boys’ team, Taylor Hansen finished fourth in the high jump with Dawson Jensen finishing seventh. Curtis Mason finished fifth in the javelin and Scott Jackson finished in fifth place in the 400 meter race. The medley relay team finished fourth and the 4 x 100 relay team finished fifth.
The Green River Pirates also participated in the track meet. Tay Johnson had a good day as she finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles and sixth in the long jump. The Pirate boys 4 x 100 relay team finished sixth. Team members listed were Kyle Johnson, Tyrell Shumway, Joe Serafin, Greg Johnson and Jovani Flores.
Other Pirates that nearly placed were Joe Serafin ninth in the 200 meters and 11th in the long jump, Greg Johnson was 11th in the 100 meters, Cassidee Moore was 11th in the 800 meters and Corbin Mecham was 11th in the shot put.
