The Emery High baseball team won the Utah State 2-A baseball championship Saturday afternoon after a decisive, undefeated run through the state tournament.
Emery defeated region 13’s Parowan in the championship game 15-9. Sophomore Dillon Wilstead started the game for Emery on the mound and pitched three innings giving up five runs. Sophomore Baylee Bolotas pitched the final four innings and got the win.
Emery had 10 hits in the game with the lone senior on the team leading the way. Tappan Draper went to the plate and got on base on five times, twice after getting hit by a pitch.
Emery defeated Kanab Friday afternoon in the semi-final game by the score of 19-1. Emery also defeated Millard in a quarterfinal game on Thursday. All games were played at Kearns High School in Salt Lake County.
The Rams had a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning when Emery’s bats finally awoke with the Spartans scoring seven runs. Emery also scored seven runs in the next inning to put breathing room between them and their opponent.
Parowan scored four in the top of the sixth inning to narrow the gap but Bolotas sat the team down in three straight batters in the final inning to secure emery’s first state baseball title in over thirty years.
