The Emery High carpentry class recently completed their 2013 house. For the past several year students have been building houses on property owned by the school district.
Jim Keele is the instructor for the class, “This year’s house was the largest undertaking since the inception of the EHS Carpentry program back in 1997. Not only was it the largest house; (3800 sq. ft. -1900 for the completed first level and 1900 for the unfinished basement) it was also built by the fewest students with seven in the day class and six in the after-school program. To pull this off, it took a lot of dedicated determination from all of the students. They had to learn quickly and work hard. I personally wish to thank each of my students for their respect and hard work. Everyone should be very proud of their accomplishments.”
“We made many new improvements and upgrades to the home in hopes that the future owners would get to enjoy them. This included extra insulation, high efficiency appliances, high quality fixtures, high quality cabinets, and stamped concrete.”
“Much coordination and effort goes into the success of this program. I would like to thank the following people and organizations: Emery County School District, Emery County School Board Members, Emery County Planning and Zoning department, Emery County School Maintenance, Magnuson Lumber, Lofthouse Electric, Steve’s Plumbing, Dugmore Appliance and Heating, J M Countertops, Affordable Flooring, Arrowhead Construction, Homestyle Siding, Mark and Sons Excavating, Lewis Stilson, USU Eastern, Sunrise Engineering, S & V Glass, and Ty’s Cabinets”
“Each year I hire a past student to help teach the Carpentry Class. This has to be someone that has exceptional work ethics and respect for the program. This year I had the pleasure of working with Seth Stevens,” said Keele.
Day Class included: Stetson Bennett, Chase Fausett, Dakota Curtis, Trevor Graham, Erica Flores, KaRanda Krompel, Jaden Gordon, Tallon Morrey, after school class; Brandon Randall, George Sorensen, Micah Turner, Charles Stone and Jason Wilcox.
