The Emery High Lady Spartans concluded their region season with two victories last week over North Sevier and Wasatch Academy and are now preparing for the upcoming 2-A Utah State Volleyball Championships to be held this Friday and Saturday at Utah Valley University.
Emery traveled to Salina last Wednesday and defeated North Sevier High 3-1 with the scores of the games being 21-25, 25-17, 26-24 and 25-23. Emery traveled the next afternoon to Mt. Pleasant and defeated Wasatch Academy 3-0 with the scores of the games being 25-15, 25-15 and 25-23.
Emery concluded region 15 action with a 7-3 record as they finished second behind the San Juan Broncos. San Juan had a 10-0 record as they consistently showed why they are the number two ranked team in the state in the 2-A ranks. Grand High finished in third place with a 6-4 record and South Sevier was fourth with a 5-5 record. All four teams make the tournament.
Emery is playing the most consistent volleyball of their season with a solid rotation and the team should do well in the state tournament. With only a single senior on the team, this solid junior class should do good things for the school not only this season but next season also.
Emery will play the third place team out of region 14, Layton Christian, this Friday, Nov. 1 at 3:30 p.m. on court 1. The team will play next at 6:30 p.m. on Friday in their next game. If they win, they will play the winner of region 16’s first place team, South Summit, vs. region 13’s fourth place team, Kanab. If they lose they will play the loser of that game.
The tournament is double elimination and will conclude on Saturday at 8 p.m. with the championship.
