The Green River Pirate track teams made their way to Price to participate in the Carbon High track meet last Saturday and the team competed very well against schools much bigger than themselves. Carbon High, Emery High and Pinnacle were there but so was Orem High, Provo High and Uintah High who are all 4-A schools.
Green River scored 32.5 points on the boys’ side to finish sixth with the girls scoring 14 points to finish seventh in the team standings. Seven different Pirate athletes scored points in the meet which is not bad when a team only has 13 total students out for the sport.
Corbin Mecham had the highest finish of the day with a second place throw of 110 feet in the discus. Mecham also finished third in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet 9 inches.
Taylor Johnson had the best day for the girls as she finished third in the long jump with a jump of 15 feet 2 inches. Johnson also finished sixth in the 100 meter hurdles. Joe Serafin also finished strong in two events as he was third in the long jump with a jump of 20 feet 2 inches. Serafin finished sixth in the 100 meters.
Also scoring points were Tyrell Shumway with a third place finish in the javelin with a throw of 150 feet and 1 inch and Jon Mendez with a jump of 5 foot 3 inches in the high jump to finish fifth in that event.
Cassidee Moore finished fifth in the 800 meters and Savannah Williams finished eighth in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet 5 inches.
