A young Lady Pirates team drops season opener

By Gary Arrington Sports Writer

Going into the season the new head coach at Green River knew her Pirate volleyball team would be young and inexperienced and sure enough as the season begins the Lady Pirates are becoming accustomed to their roles on the team.
The Lady Pirates opened the season at home as they hosted Milford and lost the home opener in three straight sets. The scores were 14-25, 16-25 and 17-25. Last week the Lady Pirates traveled to Altamont to face the Lady Longhorns and returned home with a three set to one loss. The scores in this match were 15-25, 14-25 25-22 and 17-25.
With just a single starter returning from last season’s team, Coach Brady knew the beginning of the new season could be a struggle but she is hoping and expecting that her team will mature quickly and will be competitive by the time region action starts.
Green River will host Tabiona this Thursday night and they are hoping to continue improving on the court. Action will begin at 4 p.m. with varsity action set to begin around 6:15 p.m.
