The Green River High Lady Pirates finished the volleyball season in fourth place after region play in region 19 and had to face Dugway in a play-in game last Friday at Utah Valley University just to make the 1-A state tournament. Green River dispatched Dugway to get in.
Unfortunately after a brief time to celebrate the Lady Pirates had to play again, this time against the defending champions Panguitch. Panguitch had also been ranked the best in 1-A all season.
Panguitch defeated Green River in three straight games. The scores were 25-15, 25-10 and 25-16. Panguitch had just won the first of four games in the two-day affair as they went on to defend their title after defeating Piute in the championship game 3-1.
After losing to the Bobcats, the Lady Pirates faced Altamont in a consolation bracket game and Altamont defeated Green River 3-1 to end the Pirates season. The scores were 22-25, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-22 for the Longhorns.
Monticello, the champion of region 19 this season, defeated Rich High in their final game and claimed third in the state tournament. Monticello also lost to Panguitch at UVU, for their only loss in Orem.
