Lady Spartans with wins over Wasatch Academy/Grand

The Emery High Lady Spartan basketball team completed the first half of region action last week with two rather easy wins and now stand at 5-0 in region 15 play. The Lady Spartans are in great shape as they battle for positioning in the upcoming 2-A state tournament. They will close out the regular season with three home games and just two on the road. This week they will be home to face San Juan for the second time of the year. That game is Thursday evening. Last week started off with a 65-37 win at home over an outmatched Grand High team that was only close for about eight minutes. The week ended with a road win at Wasatch Academy by the score of 47-25.
At Wasatch Academy, Emery was up 13-8 after the first quarter, 24-13 at the half and then really blew the game open with a 19-7 third quarter to lead 43-20. Although Wasatch Academy didn’t shoot well, they did rebound well throughout the game and according to one of the Spartan coaches, “They outrebounded us by probably 25 rebounds.”
Emily Olsen led the Spartan scoring with 14 points in the game with Ashton Bell and Cassidy Labrum also scoring in double figures as they each finished the game with 10 points. Bayler Griffin scored 6 points, Camrey Johnson scored 5 points and Lexi Huntington scored the final 2 points of the game.
Against Grand, Emery led 12-6 after the first quarter and 26-12 at the half as the game was never in doubt. Emery won the third quarter 19-10 behind Bailey Rasmussen’s seven points. The fourth quarter belonged to the younger girls and Emery won that period 20-15 as Emery hit five three-pointers in the quarter. Bayler Griffin hit the first and then freshman Lainee Jensen hit a pair of three’s and sophomores Lexi Chynoweth and Taijah Price each hit one three.
Bailey Rasmussen was the leading scorer in the game with 15 points and she also had five steals in the game. Emily Olsen scored 11 points and had five assists and Griffin finished with 10 points and six steals to lead the team.
Bell scored 9 points and had a game high seven rebounds. Also scoring in the game were Jensen with 6, Labrum with 4 points, Chynoweth and Price with 3 points each, Jessica Olsen with 2 points and Johnson and Huntington with 1 point each.
