SPRING GLEN-Norman Vernon Wilson, age 89, passed away Jan. 19, 2015 in Price.
He was born Nov. 5, 1925 in Scofield, Utah to Vernon and Ella Wiseman Wilson. Married Barbara Louise Cima, July 2, 1948 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helper.
Norm was a lifelong resident of Carbon County and graduate of Carbon High School. While attending school in the area, he enjoyed an illustrious football career at Carbon High and Carbon College. Norm loved to play quarterback at Carbon High and he was also a member of the 1947 Intermountain National Championship Football Team at Carbon College.
Norm had a “Green Thumb” and his talents were put to use at an early age while working for Intermountain Farmers Association in Price. One of his greatest achievements, were the friendships with the farmers and producers in Carbon, Emery and Grand counties while working for IFA for over 50 years. Norm always said, “The best part of his job was driving the fertilizer truck”. He was also a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and valued friend to many. Norm warmed the hearts of all and his friendship will be treasured for generations.
Survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Wilson, daughter, Susan (Ted) Deffendol, both of Spring Glen; sons, Gary (Kathleen) Wilson, Moab, Dale (Dorothy) Wilson, Spring Glen; brother, Glenn (Beth) Wilson, Nampa, Idaho; six grandchildren, Peter (Candance) Deffendol, Leslie (Grady) Allen, Krista Wilson, Kelly Wilson, Benjamin (Nicole) Wilson and Greg McCawley; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Arlene Saunders.
Funeral service was held, Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, 10 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price. Family received friends at Mitchell’s Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
