Green River Pirates win against Whitehorse

The Green River Pirate boy’s basketball team raised their season record to 13-5 and their region 19 record to 3-1 with last Friday night’s Homecoming victory over Whitehorse High. The boys won by the score of 70-57. In the boy’s game Green River went up 24-8 after the first quarter and then held on for the victory as Whitehorse would not go away in this game despite being down by sixteen points at the end of that quarter. Green River extended the lead in the second quarter by one but then lost the third quarter by one before Whitehorse won the final period by three to narrow the gap.
Jon Mendez and TJ Hughes led the Pirate effort with 18 points each. Chance Pfander and Corbin Mecham also finished the game scoring in double figures as Chance scored 14 points and Corbin scored 12 points. Jovani Flores scored 6 points and Nic Corrigan and Jacob Cox each scored 1 points in the game.
The boy’s team plays at Pinnacle on Tuesday and then will play at home against Monument Valley this Friday night.
