Maughan Marion Guymon – age 67 passed away Jan. 26, 2015 at his home in Huntington, Utah. He was born June 17, 1947 to Morris M and Ruth Maughan Guymon in Price Utah. He was a proud graduate of Emery High School Class of 1965. He served an LDS mission in the Ireland Mission, and developed a great love for that land. He then attended The College of Eastern Utah. He and his sweetheart Thelma Ann Selman were sealed for time and all eternity on Jan. 31, 1970 in the Manti LDS Temple, beginning a glorious legacy of love and faith. He graduated from Utah State University in 1973. He then served in the US Army. Following military service, Maughan returned to his hometown, Huntington, where he worked in the mining industry and then as the Area Agency Aging Director for Southeastern Utah. He loved his 28 years of service to the senior citizens of Utah. In 2013 Maughan received a Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding work in the field of Aging-presented by the Utah Aging Alliance.
Maughan was beloved of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Maughan was a man that welcomed all and loved everyone. He had the ability to see the best in a person even when they couldn’t see it for themselves. He will always be a wonderful example of Christlike love. He has many friends and “adopted sons and daughters”. He served in many capacities in the LDS Church and in the communities that he worked, lived in, and loved.
The Cowboy Grandpa loved to be just that; in his youth, cattle drives and Gentry Mountain, fishing, hunting, and working outside. He was a great sportsman and a wonderful storyteller. He had many accomplishments, the greatest being his family. He and TA have 13 children who continued their legacy with 36 grandchildren. All of whom know they are loved by a great man and with all of whom he has shared his beautiful testimony of the Savior, and of the importance of family. We feel truly honored to know this man and to be sealed to him for eternity.
Maughan is survived by sweetheart Thelma; his 13 children: Rebecca (Kirk) Overton, Sarah (Troy) Suwyn, Leah (Jeremy) Pattillo, Michael (Erika) Guymon, Mara (Eric) Sanders, Eden (Daniel) Thrower, Esther (Lance) Baldwin, Joanna Guymon, Adah (Jedadiah) Black, Matthew Guymon, Eve Guymon, Ariel Guymon, and Gabrielle (Jared) Richins; 34 grandchildren; mother-in-law LaRue Selman; brother and sister Quinn Guymon and Ruth Ann (Thomas) Chapman; brother and sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents Morris M and Ruth Maughan Guymon, father-in-law Orrin McEwan Selman, sister-in-law Ellen Adams Guymon, and two grandchildren: Sophie Ann and Elijah Cope Sanders.
