Emery teams place first in state in swim boys and girls take championship

By GARY ARRINGTON Sports Writer

The two Emery High swim teams came away from the Utah State 2-A swim meet with championship trophies on Thursday February 12. In the state meet
held at Brigham Young University, the Emery girls scored 268.5 points to easily outdistance second-place Grand High School by 57 points.
The Emery boy’s margin was tighter but a win is still a win as the boys scored 266 points to second-place North Summit with 241 points.
Laryssa Guymon, Madi Allinson and Chyanne Carter each had individual wins and then they added Kaitlyn Carter to the mix and they won a relay race.
The girl’s team actually won another relay race but were disqualified from the race because one of them started too early.
The Emery boys only won a single event but they did it in style as they set a new 2-A record in the 200-yard medley relay. They then scored in every event and muscled their way to the win.
