The Emery High Lady Spartans lost a region game at South Sevier by the score of 9-7 last Tuesday as they gave up five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and then they traveled to Hurricane High to play a non-region game and they blasted the 3-A team 13-3 in five innings.
In Monroe, Emery led 7-4 as the Lady Rams came up for their final at-bat. Emery had scored seven runs on 10 base hits. Gentry Noyes played her best offensive game of the season with four base hits in four at bats with one of those being a double. Ashton Bell hit a double and a home run and knocked in three RBI’s. Things looked good for Emery going into that final at bat.
In the bottom of that final inning, the lead-off batter was hit by a pitch and then advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. The next batter singled to score a run but the next batter struck out and the bottom two batters in the line-up were coming up to bat.
The next batter was hit by a pitch, the second batter in the inning to do so but only the third of the ball game, and the number nine batter then walked after having been down 0-2. The leadoff batter then hit an 0-2 pitch for a homerun and the game was over.
Emery outhit the Rams 10 to seven and the Rams committed eight errors to just three by the Spartans and Emery controlled the game throughout but that final inning did the Emery team in and they came home with a region loss.
At Hurricane, Taylor Payne started on the mound and gave up just three base hits and zero earned runs as she struck out four batters and only walked two.
Emery scored one run in the first inning, eight in the second inning and three in the third inning as they took control of the game early on and never relinquished that control.
Payne and Kambrie Hinkins each hit a homerun in the game and Jacie Huntington had a double for the only extra base hits of the day although Emery had eight singles to go along with those.
Hinkins, Amber Petersen and Skyler Sitterud each had a pair of hits and Payne, Bell, Noyes, Jacie Huntington and Jessica Mason each had one hit. Hinkins had three RBI’s and also scored three runs. Peterson and Jacie each had two RBI’s. Bell also scored three runs in the game.
In that second inning, Jarica Huntington got on base due to an error by the Hurricane right fielder.
Mason and Sitterud then singled to left with Jarica scoring. Hinkins then hit a three-run homerun and Payne followed with a solo shot for a homerun.
After Bell and Noyes both got on base due to errors by the third baseman, Petersen singled to load the bases and Jacie then doubled scoring Bell and Noyes.
Jarica then hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the inning.
The Spartans will be at home this Tuesday in a non-region game against Carbon and then will face San Juan this Friday at home.
