County commission looks at lawn care bids

At the Emery County Commission meeting bids were opened for the yard care of the Museum of the San Rafael, the Castle Dale Senior Center, the Aquatic Center and the Courthouse building. Three bids were received from Conder Lawn Service $192.40, Tenant Lawn Care Service $295 and All-Star Property Management $620. Before a bid will be awarded each bid will have to be reviewed by the commission to see if they meet the bid specifications.
A tax deferral agreement for Kelly J. Ostler was discussed, but Kelly J Ostler was not present. This item was sent back to the assessor’s office with no action at this time. If the taxes on this property are not paid by May 28, 2015. The property will go up for tax sale.
A tax deferral agreement was made for Southwest Stone to set up a time payment plan for the taxes owed.
The 2015 property tax exemptions for religious, charitable or educational properties were discussed. Nonprofit organizations can qualify for tax exemption. The Epicenter was approved for tax exemption as a charitable organization. Two duplexes owned by PACT were not approved. The original list of tax-exempt properties was approved with the above exceptions.
Don Childs was appointed to the Emery County care and rehabilitation board of directors by the commission.
Ray Petersen was designated to represent Emery County as a cooperating agency at the BLM Price Field Office in preparation of their Travel and Transportation Management Plan.
Western Energy Alliance, a petroleum advocacy organization represents clients throughout the west that are energy explorers and developers. They have clients in Utah and In Emery County. The sage grouse is a big issue for their clients. Lowell Braxton their representative wants Emery County to consider a resolution challenging the science US Fish and wildlife and the BLM are using in their sage grouse planning effort and to come to a final determination whether to list sage grouse or not. They say they have better science than the agencies are using. Six other counties have already passed resolutions supporting this challenge. The commissioners approved supporting this resolution.
The plan for the Emery County beer tax funds for the year 2016 was approved by the commission.
Approval was given relating to the real property acquisition, South Lawrence sediment pond clean out and the Huntington/Cleveland Irrigation Company sediment pond clean out. This is part of the agreement that the county had with the NRCS regarding the Huntington Canyon down stream reclamation.
Maintenance and usage of the Trail Machine item was tabled.
Cory Worwood of the Weed and Mosquito Department wants to add in James Nielsen to his staff. Commissioner Migliori said James Nielsen is a good asset to the County. This item will be on the agenda for the next meeting.
Ray Petersen attended a field trip held in Cottonwood Creek Canyon to review potential bouldering camping sites with the BLM and stockmen concerned about trailing cattle down through that area. The group then went up straight Canyon with the Utah Department of Transportation to locate proper parking places. This is part of the process for accommodating people that come here for bouldering recreation.
The dinosaur tracks that Michael Leschin wants to move off of the Moore road to the reef East of Moore was postponed.
Jordan Leonard has been hired as the Emery County Economic Development Director.
