"Bike and Build participants build a new ramp."

Many of the stairs off of Doris Randolph’s back porch were taller than normal, proving difficult for Doris to reach her garden and driveway safely. Through A Brush with Kindness, Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country was able to help Doris by replacing a stair with a ramp, adding a secondary step to the other set of stairs, and painting the porch.
A majority of the work was completed by 12 Bike and Build participants, who stop in Green River every August to volunteer their time towards alleviating affordable housing issues. The project took a day to complete. Throughout this time, Doris continually expressed her gratitude: “I really appreciate all of you working so hard.”
We would like to thank the Sorenson Legacy Foundation, the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation, AmeriCorps, Wells Fargo, and the Union Pacific Foundation for their support. Without the support from these sponsors and donations from local residents and vendors, HFHCC would not be able to help people in need of repairs like Doris.
A Brush with Kindness Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country has developed the new program called A Brush with Kindness (ABWK) which focuses on minor exterior home repairs to improve quality of life, durability, energy efficiency, and/or accessibility. ABWK aims to improve circumstances for moderate to low income and elderly homeowners in all of Carbon and Emery Counties.
The projects are low cost and are repaid through a no interest revolving loan fund. HFHCC relies on volunteer participation which strengthens the community. ABWK’s main goal is to eliminate all safety issues within the homes of qualified homeowners in Castle Country.
Projects performed include: exterior painting/siding, minor roofing repairs, stair/ramp accessibility, handrail installation, grab bar installation, door/window replacement, and landscaping.
HFHCC is a registered 501(c)(3) notforprofit organization to which cash and in kind donations are taxdeductible.
Donations may be made by mailing checks payable to “HFHCC” to PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501.
