Lady Spartan volleyball with win over Grand

Last week the Emery High Lady Spartans played a region 15 contest against Grand in volleyball and defeated the Red Devils in five games and then the Spartans hosted Carbon in a non-region contest and lost in five games. The score in the final game against Carbon was 15-11 as the Spartans came close but not close enough. Against Grand, Emery lost 25-19 to start the night before winning the next two sets 25-23. In the fourth set, Grand prevailed 25-23 setting up the fifth and final game. Emery served to start the final set but Grand scored first and then served for a point to lead 2-0. Grand led 5-1 until Aniston Curtis served and the Spartans scored four straight points to tie the score at 5-5.
Grand then retook the lead at 7-5 until Emery reclaimed the lead at 9-7. Emery’s Morgann Donaldson served the final point as her serve went off the net and to the ground for an ace and Emery had defeated the visiting team.
In game one, Emery fell behind 7-2 and trailed 20-11 before rallying to make the score respectable. In the next game, Emery was down 5-0 before tying the score at 8-8. Emery led at 20-15 before Grand scored six points to grab the lead. Emery never lost their composure though and the Spartans scored the final three points with Bayler Griffin serving.
In the third set, Emery led 6-5 and then the score went to 11-8 for Emery and then 17-16 and 23-23 before Donaldson finished this game with another ace. Emery fell behind in game four 15-11, closed the gap to 21-20 and then lost 25-20.
Emery will play at home Tuesday night against Manti and then will travel Thursday night to Gunnison for more region action.
