The Richfield Ranger District of the Fishlake National Forest, treated 330 acres last week, during their prescribed fire efforts within unit 5 of the project area.
If weather conditions are favorable, fire personnel will attempt another ignition effort today. The plan is to burn approximately 250 acres in unit 2. If this effort takes place, it will complete burning in unit 2.
Prescribed burns reduce the risk for large scale high intensity wildland fire by improving firefighter safety and reducing the threat to adjacent private property. Restore ecosystems to properly functioning condition in terms of species composition.
Create more desirable habitat for wildlife species dependent on the various ecosystems in the area.
To accomplish the desired condition, prescribed fire techniques may be implemented within 4014 acres utilizing broadcast ignition. Approximately 30-80 percent of the fuels will be burned in a mosaic pattern to break up continuous fuel beds that support high intensity stand replacing fire and create a diversity of structural vegetative stages, age classes and species composition.
Smoke from this prescribed burn may be seen in Emery County.
