Lady Spartan Volleyball beats San Juan/Grand suffers loss at N. Sevier/Grand

The Emery Spartans, as with all the volleyball teams in the state of Utah, are entering the final weeks of the season as they try to position themselves for the upcoming playoffs. With three weeks to go in region play, region 15 has four teams within one game of the region lead. North Sevier stands at 4-1 followed by San Juan at 4-2 and Emery at 4-2. Grand is at 3-2 followed by Gunnison at 2-3 and Manti at 0-6, officially the only team out of the playoffs.
Region 14 is led by Waterford at 4-0 and Rowland Hall at 5-1, region 13 is led by Delta at 6-0 and region 16 is led by North Summit at 4-0 and South Summit at 4-1. Emery hosted San Juan and defeated the Broncos in a five-game set and then the Spartans went on the road and lost at North Sevier. The Emery varsity and JV teams will participate in a tournament at Richfield on Friday and Saturday.
Emery lost the first game 25-22 and then defeated the Broncos 25-23 in the second. Emery lost a close one in the third 25-23 before winning the fourth 25-22 to tie the score and send it to the final fifth game. Emery prevailed 17-15 after having found themselves down at 10-6 after having led at 6-3. With Jessica Olsen serving Emery reversed their fortunes and went up 14-10 and then held on to win as Camrey Johnson served the final point and Emery grabbed the win.
On the road in Salina, Emery failed to show up in game one as North Sevier won rather easily at 25-12. Emery then was competitive the rest of the way as they lost game two 27-25, won game three 25-23 and then lost game four 26-24 to lose 3-1.
Emery suffered a loss on Tuesday at Grand.
They will travel to Manti on Oct. 13.
Their last home match will be on Oct. 20 against Gunnison.
