Spartan swimmers finish second in meet

The Emery High swim teams hosted Richfield High and Grand High last week at the Emery County Aquatic Center in Castle Dale. The Emery Spartans are the defending state champion in both the girl’s and the boy’s divisions. Richfield edged the Spartans in both team events with the Wildcat boys scoring 133 to Emery’s 116 and Lady Wildcats scoring 108 points to the Spartans 100. Grand was third.
The Emery boy’s won four events while the Richfield team won seven events. The Spartan boy’s won the 200-yard medley relay with Devin Willson leading off and Daryl Guymon, Nate Gilbert and Dakota Wright swimming the other legs. Deegan Minchey finished first in the 200-yard freestyle race while Gilbert was first in the 100-yard freestyle and Guymon was first in the 100-yard backstroke.
Madi Allinson was the lone winner for the Lady Spartans as she finished first in the 100-yard backstroke. Both Richfield and Grand won five events in the girl’s division but Emery’s team depth kept the scores close. Allinson also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle and swam on the 200-yard medley relay team and the 400-yard freestyle relay team where each team finished in second place.
Minchey also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly race and swam on the 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished second with the team also consisting of Devin Willson, Keldan Guymon and Garret Stilson. Minchey was also on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that also finished second. That team also consisted of Guymon, Wright and Gilbert.
Gilbert, besides winning the 100 free and swimming on the 200-yard medley relay team that won and the 400-yard relay team that finished second, finished second in the 50-yard freestyle race. Guymon swam on those same two relay teams and won the 100-yard backstroke and also finished third in the 500-yard freestyle.
Wright finished second in the 200-yard freestyle and second in the 100-yard backstroke besides swimming on a relay team. Willson also finished second in the 200-yard IM and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle besides swimming on two relay teams. The Emery team of Allinson, Erin Oliverson, Kaitlyn Carter and Shaylynn
Rowley finished second in the 200-yard medley and the team of Oliverson, Nancy Dawes, Tarryn Parkins and Laci Hulse finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the team of Carter, Dawes, Shaylynn Rowley and Allinson finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay race.
Also placing for the Lady Spartans were Hulse, Lexi Johansen, Parkins and Sydney Terwilleger finishing third in the 200-yard medley relay, Parkins second in the 200-yard IM with Hulse third, Lexi Johansen fifth and Hallie LeRoy sixth. In the 50-yard freestyle, Oliverson was fourth,
Jacie Huntington was sixth and Rowley was seventh. In the 100-yard butterfly, Oliverson was third and Parkins was fourth while in the 100-yard freestyle, Carter was third, Hulse was fifth and Brooklynn Potter was seventh.
In the 500-yard freestyle for the girls, BriAnne Bass was third, Terwilleger was fourth and Huntington was fifth. In the 100-yard backstroke, Rowley placed fourth and Johansen placed fifth while Dawes was second in the 100-yard breaststroke and Hannah Morris was seventh.
Also placing for the boys were Stilson third in the 200-yard IM, Keldan Guymon seventh in the 50-yard free, Stilson again in second in the 100-yard butterfly with Malone Moss in sixth. Jonathan Seeley finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with Allen Durrant in seventh place.
Travis Fehlberg was sixth in the 500-yard freestyle for Emery. In the 100-yard backstroke, Taigon Pulli was third and Parker Stilson was sixth while in the 100-yard breaststroke, Keldan Guymon was third.
