CASTLE DALE- Pauline V. Zekayouski Clark, age 86, passed away peacefully November 24, 2015 at her home in Castle Dale. She was born June 18, 1929 in Liverpool, England to Stefon and Roseanne Sharkey Zekayouski.
Pauline was a long time resident of Emery, Utah before moving to Kanab, Utah in 1998 and then returning to Castle Dale in 2006. Pauline was raised in Chester County England where she attended Catholic School.
After finishing school at the age of 14 she worked as an aide for the hospital where her mother worked as a nurse. This era of her life was during World War II and at the age of seventeen she was given a choice of working in the cotton mills or joining the military. Pauline chose the cotton mills but after a few days she changed her mind and joined the Women’s Royal British Air Force where she served in radio communications for two years. During the last few months of her military service she unknowingly met the American Serviceman that would become her husband and lifelong friend, U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Roger Clark. After her military career was completed Pauline continued working in the medical field and married Roger Clark in England in 1951. After Pauline arrived in New York they were remarried on December 28th 1951.
Pauline had some adjusting to do when she arrived in the small town of Emery Utah after coming from the Crewe and Liverpool areas in England. She acquired many talents while living in small towns during Roger’s pursuit for work in the oil fields, mining and then eventually opening a grocery store with the U.S. Post Office attached where Roger had settled in as the Postmaster.
Pauline was a wonderful home maker where everything was always in order and you could count on having three meals a day and you better not be late. She had recipes that are still the staple meals at her sons’ houses today and if you ever came to visit her; be ready to sit down for a meal. Pauline made some of the most unique and colorful afghans in the area and she was always pursuing something to make the house a home.
Pauline will be greatly missed especially by Roberta (Boe) Taylor who has been her primary care giver the past several years. Boe made the decision to retire early to make sure she had the time to take care of Pauline and Roger.
There were many trips to doctor appointments, grocery stores, vacations, fishing adventures, and the ultimate trips to Mesquite Nevada which was Pauline’s favorite getaway.
Boe provided excellent care for Pauline which allowed her to stay in her own home which is what Pauline wanted. Pauline will also be missed by her sons, grandkids, great grandkids and all of her family and will always be in our hearts.
Survived by her children, Roger David Clark, Washington, Barry Lee (Brenda) Clark, Boise, ID, Scott Dwaine (Diane) Clark, Eagle, ID, Boe (Curtis) Taylor, Lawrence, Kevin Young (Tami) Clark, Kanab; brother and sister, Stefon Zekayouski and Rosalie both of England.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger A. Clark; three sisters, Ann, Doreen and Joan; granddaughter, Mistie Meade.
The family would like to thank all of the neighbors, friends and caregivers that have given so much of their time to help Pauline, especially Dr. Donaldson, Father Hope, Dal and Darcey Guymon, Symbii Employees, Tiffanie Bloomer, Sandy Jensen and Mandy Bennett.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, November 28, 2015, 12 noon, Emery Community Center. Family received friends one half hour prior to service. Interment, Emery Town Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Pauline online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
