Letter to the editor

By Patricia and James Monosso Ferron

Dear Editor,
In light of recent events with Judge Johansen we feel that our experience with him should be brought to public attention. Our son was put in prison for crimes he didn’t commit. Our granddaughter was taken from us with no explanation as to why. We were told by Child Protective Services that we had felonies so, we couldn’t get custody of our granddaughter. This is not true. Our records are clean. We have both had background checks that have cleared so that we could work in the nursing homes.
We feel that our rights to take our granddaughter were taken from us without any explanation as to why. CPS tried to get us to say our son was guilty of crimes we still feel he did not commit. We feel we are being punished for standing by our son. Is loving our child making us bad grandparents?
In the paperwork we have received it stated we didn’t want our grandchild. We did and told them repeatedly we did want her. When we called them and asked why, they told us “No comment.” Our beautiful granddaughter was adopted out to another family and we have been unable to even see her in three years. We don’t even know who has her.
This latest thing with the lesbian couple that was told they weren’t fit to raise a child is just one example of the narrow minded view of parenthood in this area. I’m sure there are better parents in the state than we might be, but that doesn’t make us bad grandparents. When did being poor make you unfit to raise a child? We feel we were judged as unfit without any proof.
