"Adele Justice is sworn in as a Ferron City Council member."

The Ferron City Council met for their scheduled meeting on Jan. 15. Jaime Anderson administered the oath of office to the council members, Dell Mead, Adele Justice, Ronny Bloomer and Randy Fox. Mayor Trent Jackson welcomed Mead and Fox to the council. The council reappointed Jaime Anderson, city recorder, Tami Bennett, city treasurer and Randy Nielson, fire chief. Mayor Jackson recognized Nielson with a gift for his service. He started in February of 1995 and has served the city for 21 years.
Desiree Leyva introduced herself to the council. She has applied for the ordinance enforcement position. Kathy Jenkins also applied for the position.
The council discussed the tippage fees for the landfill. There is no change to the charges for the roll off dumpsters. The increase would be $1 per month for each resident. The council decided not to have an increase for garbage collection, but would revisit the issue if it becomes a financial burden for the city.
Next on the agenda was to redefine what a resident is for being buried in the city cemetery. There is a higher fee for nonresidents and the term resident needs to be defined. Currently if you lived in Ferron and moved away you are not considered a resident of Ferron and would be required to pay the higher fee. Residents move away and die, but still have their plots in Ferron or want to be buried in Ferron. The council decided anyone who has resided in Ferron, Clawson or Molen is considered a resident for burial purposes.
There has been some requests to use the Mayor’s Park for private yard sales or other for profit ventures. The council will keep the Mayor’s park for non profit purposes and no change will occur.
The city will be hiring an ordinance enforcer in the near future. He/she will be responsible for being familiar with the city ordinances, contacting individuals not in compliance with the ordinances and reporting to the council and mayor any violations. The enforcer will be required to come to the planning and zoning meetings and the council meetings to give a report of their findings and activities.
Chris Abegglan gave the golf course report. He is happy to see snow on the golf course. It should help the course this year. I am working on advertising outside the area in Grand Junction, Richfield and Moab.
We will have our year round pass special until the end of April. We have been working on improvements to the pro shop.
The Murdochs will run the golf course restaurant again this year. It is a great benefit to have the restaurant open. We are repairing some of the golf carts.
Sid Swasey reported, he has been plowing snow. There is enough salt for one more snow storm and he will have to get more. He will not get as much this time as the salt compacts over time and it is difficult to remove from the pile. I purchased some new Christmas lights and a Christmas tree with the leftover money in the Christmas budget.
