Larry C. Ekker, 72, passed away in Ogden, Utah on Jan. 11, 2016. He was born on July 12, 1943 in Moab, Utah to Horace and Sylvia Harris Ekker. He was raised in Hanksville and had a great love for his family. He enjoyed woodworking and actively participating in many community activities. He served on non-profit boards that benefited youth and community. He loved working with kids and enjoyed helping them with their math and school work. He loved his grandkids with all his heart. Larry enjoyed the outdoors and working with his cows and horses. He was the last of the real cowboys. Larry married Rita Hill, they had three beautiful children. They later divorced. Larry loved and was loved by his companion Zina who he spent the last 15 years of his life with. He passed away with those he loved at his side. He is survived by his beloved companion Zina, his children Lynn H (Melissa) Ekker of Redmond, Sylvia Ann ‘Annie’ (Russ Wells) Ekker of Hanksville and Katie (Jason) Fabert of South Ogden; five grandchildren Kambry, Konner, Rylan, Jacie and Averi. He is also survived by his brothers Roy (Dixie) Ekker of Hurricane, Dean (Rayleen) Ekker of Hanksville and Jessie (Carol) Ekker of Green River. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Jake Edward, and his son Larry Horace “L.J.” Ekker who passed away the day before him.
A viewing for both Larry and his son L.J. was held on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the LDS Church in Hanksville, Utah. A joint funeral service for them both followed in the Chapel at 12 noon. Interment followed in the Hanksville Cemetery. Funeral services are entrusted to Fausett Mortuary in Price.
