Larry Horace Ekker “LJ” age 34, passed away in Hanksville, Utah on Jan. 10, 2016. He was born on April 11, 1981 in Richfield to Larry C and Rita Ann Hill Ekker. LJ had a difficult time at his birth and required a shunt to be placed to sustain his life. This was the beginning of a life of survivorship for him. He not only survived the condition but also became a cancer survivor when they discovered he had a tumor in his leg. He faced it head on like he did his entire life. He was a survivor. He was raised in Hanksville, and graduated from Wayne High School in 2000. He loved people and was there for help when they needed. He was an active member of the Hanksville Search and Rescue Team. He also attended Snow College South and received training which helped him become an excellent chef. He shared those talents as he worked for Duke Alvey. LJ loved to be out of doors with his horse, and riding his 4 wheeler. He really loved his dog and best friend and companion “Hank”. LJ will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Larry is survived by his mother, Rita Jewkes of Green River, his brother Lynn (Melissa) Ekker of Redmond and sister Sylvia Ann “Annie” Ekker of Hanksville. His father passed away on the following morning after his death.
The family would like to give a special thank-you to Duke and Jessica Alvey, the many friends of Hanksville and Fausett Mortuary and staff.
