David Lee Mumm (husband of Nila Huntsman) passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016 at home in Richland, Wash. surrounded by family. He was 93 years old. He was born in Winona, Minn., March 17, 1922 to Frank Hugo Mumm and Eleanor Mae Harriman Mumm.
David spent his childhood in Fargo, N.D. He graduated from Ames High School in Ames, Iowa in 1941. His folks owned a restaurant in Ames that he helped them run. He also lived in Meridian, Mich. for a while. David is a veteran who served in the Navy for a short time in Corpus Christi, Texas.
David’s family moved to Hanford, Wash. in 1943. David was a mailman for Hanford and Richland, Wash. for 37 years before retiring in October of 1979. He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1952; and was called in March 1953 to March 1955 as a Richland Stake Missionary. David married Nila Huntsman July 25, 1957 in the LDS temple in Manti, Utah; then in 1967 he was called to serve in the Genealogical Library where he served for over 30 years; David loved doing Family History work and loved helping others find their ancestors.
He loved helping his parents run the Glad Farm in Kennewick, Wash., where gladiolas became his favorite flower; he also loved trips with his family, antique cars, wild card games of Uno, cats and enjoyed the company of several cats during his life. David also liked to enter contests; he won the Giant Nickel contests a couple of times, an airline ticket, a giant Christmas stocking and a few other contests; he was a lucky man in many ways.
David was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank Harriman Mumm who died while serving in World War II; brother, John Allen Mumm and granddaughter, Carlayne Rose.
David is survived by his wife, Nila of 58 years; daughter, Carla (Dave) Rose; daughter, Cynthia (George) Wood all of Richland, Wash.; he is also survived by three grandchildren: Shaleen Wood, Megan Wood and Eric Wood of Richland, Wash.
The family would like to thank Hospice for all the support and care they provided to David and his family for the past few months, especially his nurse Sheila, for her constant care and strength.
A viewing was held, Friday, Feb. 26, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Events at Sunset Center by Einan’s in Richland, Wash.; with a Military Honors Ceremony at 6:15 p.m. Another viewing was held Saturday, Feb. 27 from 10-10:45 a.m. with the funeral following at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 1720 Thayer, Richland, Wash. Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 in the Ferron City Cemetery at 12 noon, entrusted to the care of Fausett Mortuary.
