Last week before the spring break began for the Emery students and faculty, the Emery baseball team played Tuesday and the softball on Wednesday. The Emery High Lady Spartans ripped Altamont 15-0 in three innings while the baseball team took their season record to 1-6 with a loss to the South Sevier Rams by the score of 6-1.
Although the softball game had a scheduled 1:30 p.m. start time it started a little late but the Spartan team didn’t really care as they ended the game 45 minutes later as they efficiently sent the Lady Longhorns home with a loss.
Bailey Huggard pitched the game, which lasted just three innings due to the run rule, and allowed just two base hits and a single walk and left just a single runner on base.
Emery scored five runs in the first inning and 10 runs in the second inning and did not need the bottom of the third inning to claim the win. Jessica Mason, Shaylee Jewkes and Kelsey Reeve each had three base hits in the game with each hitting two singles and one double. Jewkes, Reeve and Jacie Huntington each had three RBI’s with Jacie’s hit being a double. Also having hits in the game were Addy Healy with a double and a single, Huggard with two singles and Jayla Weston with a single.
Against South Sevier, the Emery boys managed just a single run in the bottom of the first inning and had just three hits in the game while committing three errors on offense. Tel Gardner picked up the loss on the mound.
The Lady Spartans play at a Richfield tournament on Saturday of this week while the boys travel to Union on Tuesday and then host Delta on Friday.
