Baseball/soccer one win, one loss this week: softball at the Richfield tourney

The spring sports have restarted after the spring break and the Emery High baseball, softball and soccer teams all saw action last week. The boys’ soccer team split their games as they defeated Gunnison 2-1 and lost to Wasatch Academy 3-0.
In the victory, Ashton Dieli and Ethan Winters each scored a goal for the Spartan team as Emery scored twice in the second half of action to secure the win after both teams went scoreless in the first half. Against Wasatch Academy, Emery gave up a single goal in the first half and a pair of goals in the second half.
The Emery High baseball team defeated Union 4-3 and then faced Delta at home and came away with a 19-9 loss. Against Delta, Emery scored five runs in the second inning but gave up seven runs in the first inning and two runs in the second inning to trail 9-5 after two. Emery scored a single run in the fourth inning and three in the seventh inning but the Spartans gave up six runs in the top of the seventh inning. Delta had 18 base hits compared to eight for Emery. Wyatt Cox hit a homerun for the Spartans and Bryce Dugmore had a double.
In the game against Union, the Cougars scored once in the first inning and once in the third inning and then another run in the fifth inning. Emery scored twice in the top of the third inning and once in each of the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win. Both teams had eight base hits in the game and both teams committed four errors.
The Emery High Lady Spartan softball team competed at a JV tourney in Payson. They lost to Manti 11-4to Norh Sanpete 12-4 to Salen Hills 4-2 and to Payson 10-7.
