"Emery soccer team: This week they play on the road on Thursday at North Sevier."

The 2016 high school boys’ soccer regular season is coming to a close and the Emery High Spartan team will close out their season with a game this Thursday at North Sevier.
Emery played Gunnison last week and the Bulldogs won that game 3-1. With the loss the Spartans now stand 6-5 in region play with just that one game to go.
In the 2-A Central region Manti is first with an 8-1-1 record with Wasatch Academy second at 7-3. Gunnison is third with a 6-3-1 record followed by the Spartans and then Grand with a 5-5-1 record. Grand is just a half game behind the Emery team. South Sevier at 2-7-1 and North Sevier at 0-10 are in the final two spots. The top four teams make the state playoffs from each of the four regions.
Last week Emery played at Gunnison. Ashton Dieli scored the lone goal for the Spartans with that goal coming in the first half of play. Gunnison was able to score two goals in the first half and another in the second half to claim the win.
The top teams in the state as rated by the Salt Lake City newspapers are American Leadership Academy, Waterford, South Summit, Millard and Manti.
If the Spartans claim the win this week against the winless Wolves at Salina then they will claim that fourth spot in the region no matter what Grand does in their game. Grand closes out the season against Wasatch Academy.
