County approves legal consulting for Career Service Council

The Emery County Commissioners ratified the retainer agreement with Smith Hartvigsen to advise and represent the Emery County Career Service Council. The Career service council is set-up to handle disputes within the county by an impartial council.
The board approved Assurances Relating to Real Property Acquisition for the Cottonwood Creek Project Water Treatment Plant in connection with the installation of project measures which involve financial assistance furnished by the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
The board approved a right of way easement across Emery County property to accommodate a water pipeline to deliver water from Interwest Mining’s Deer Creek Mine to the Huntington Power Plant.
The contract of the awarded grant to digitize cemetery records and submit those records to the Utah State History burials database was approved. The grant is for $2,800.
A Cooperative Agreement for Noxious Weed Management between The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands and Emery County Weed and Mosquito Department was approved.
Clifford Snow asked for approval from the commissioners for a fly over application over the museum on Veteran’s Day. They approved the application.
The commissioners approved the Board of Equalization closure and any changes made for 2016. They approved the veteran, blind, and homeowner’s tax credit abatements.
Mark H. Williams and Tina Carter from the Travel Council asked the commissioners if they would take over the Arapeen ATV Jamboree Event. The jamboree recently concluded for this year. All participants had a great time. He suggested maybe having a jamboree in Green River in the spring and on the west side in the fall. Williams said they have the permits from the BLM and they don’t want to lose those. Most riders indicate this is a very unique area to ride in. Williams said the travel council and the events coordinator will be more effective in getting the information out about the event. The commissioners approved taking over the event.
Travel Board Members, LaMar Guymon and Jonathan Hunt will be able to ride in the county’s Travel Van to previously approved Utah Tourism Conference and Utah Outdoor Recreation Summit Show. They will also be able to ride in the van for meetings in Green River to save on travel expenses.
Commissioner Keith Brady will vote in behalf of Emery County at UCIP’s Annual Meeting as an alternate if needed.
The design for construction, and construction evaluations on South Moore Cut-Off Road, Phase 10 were approved.
The Huntington Creek Watershed Coordinated Resource Management Plan will need a public hearing before it can be added to the Emery County General Plan.
Commissioner Ethan Migliori said the bouldering festival is coming up Oct. 6-8 and will include many activities for boulderers and non-boulderers alike. He expressed appreciation for the fire fighters who came in and helped fight the Fly Canyon fire.
Commissioner Paul Cowley reported on the fire as well. A power line was in danger and the power shut off. The fire will be beneficial to clean some dead timber out of the area. There is a water summit conference upcoming on Oct. 25 that will be beneficial.
Commissioner Brady reported the Vietnam Veteran recognition program went well. Peach Days and Melon Days celebrations in the county went well too and were well attended. The fall bike festival will take place and a fly-in at the airport. An aerospace information meeting will take place on Oct. 4.
Jordan Leonard, economic development director said it will begin at 8 am at Emery High.
They will tour some local companies. The purpose is to seek local suppliers for the aerospace industry.
The business would have to certify to become a supplier. Leonard said it’s a good economic opportunity and he hopes local businesses will come out and see if it might be a fit for their business.
There are manufacturing contracts and subcontract work for parts.
Shannon Hiatt selected Dakota Wright and Keldon Guymon as part time lifeguards.
Wade Hancock and Robert Bennett were approved for a 3 percent wage increase for successful completion of their 6 month orientation period.
