There’s been a passing of the dance slippers at ShowTime Dance Studio.Their new location is on Main Street in Castle Dale and they have two new instructor/owners.
Donn Jeffs after 30 years as a dance teacher has decided to try something different. She is currently working on getting her real estate license, operates “Cherry on Top,” seasonal crepe business and is a new grandma.
Heidi Hurdsman and Lindsey Oman are the new owners of the business. The pair has taught with Donn at ShowTime for a number of years. Oman is also a former dance student of ShowTime and has taught at the studio. Hurdsman said, “Donn decided to retire and we stepped in and purchased the dance studio. Donn taught in her home in the basement and we decided to start our studio in the original Magnuson Lumber building. Friends and family stepped up to help remodel the building. We have the dance floor itself and a reception area.
“We teach students from age 2 years and up. We do ballet, hip hop, jazz, tap and boys hip hop. We also have a technique class where we focus on perfecting and developing basic dance technique. New students of any ability are always welcome. We perform at half-time of basketball games and have a spring show every year. We attend various dance competitions. We will go to the St. George competition and the Carbon Classic. We compete as teams and also as individual dance solos and duets.
“I have danced since I was very young and have helped Donn with her classes since 2007. The young minis come on Mondays at 2 p.m; the petites begin at 2:45; the Delights at 3:30; the Supremes at 4:30; the Elites at 5:45 and the Force at 7 p.m. Thursday is the Technique class for ages 5 and older and it starts at 4 p.m. The hip hop for boys is at 5 p.m. In January, Cheryl Cox is going to start some exercise classes here in our studio,” said Hurdsman.
Assistant dance instructors include, Katelyn Hurst, Brooklin Funk and Simone Burton.
The studio also has dance shoes and clothing for sale.
Oman said all their assistants are amazing helpers who have danced for several years.
Oman and Hurdsman agree they love dancing, they love sharing dancing and it’s “so fun, the best job ever.”
Jeffs said “There are different seasons in life and this is a new season for me, selling the dance studio. Heidi and Lindsey are just the best. Heidi has such patience with the little ones. I had the Showmasters group and then ShowTime so about 30 years total. I took some time off dance to be the drill team advisor. I started the ShowTime about 19 years ago. I just love their new studio here. We’ve turned the old studio into a family room. I really miss the girls, the dancers. We have a new grandbaby born on the first day of school. I’m just going to be a mom to our adult kids, a grandma and I’ll go to Todd’s basketball home games. I’m retired from the school district too. I was a teacher for 28 years. But retirement is busy. Life is busy, I always told myself when Paytn graduated that it would be time to give up the dance studio. Lindsey and Heidi have a new spirit and energy and ideas, it’s a good thing. The parents of the dancers have been so supportive over the years,” said Jeffs.
Donn’s daughters Paytn and Blayr are both in college now and they help Lindsey and Heidi with the choreography for the dances.
Lindsey said her grandfather Jack put the original wood ceiling into the building that was where Magnuson Lumber started before they built their new building and yard near the original business.
“We’re super excited, it’s super fun. We have a lot of good memories of the old studio and are excited about the new studio. You can reach us at 749-1541 or 749-0416 for more information,” said Lindsey.
