The county Christmas party for seniors was held on Dec. 8. Emery County Commissioner Paul Cowley welcomed the room full of senior citizens to the Annual Christmas Dinner and this years Ugly Sweater contest. In the festively decorated room there was a lighted Christmas tree, Christmas wreaths, red and green leafed plants on the speakers podium and table coverings of red, white and green.
Every year the Emery County Commissioners provide a Christmas dinner for the Senior Citizens of Emery County at the San Rafael Museum. This years dinner was turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, candied yams, turkey dressing a dinner roll and a selection of pies. The elected officials were serving as waiters loading trays with plates of food and then carrying the trays of food to each table for distribution.
Most of the people that came wore a colorfully decorated sweater or Christmas decorated type of costume.
Each of the tables in the room had a table decoration of candy canes filled with m and m’s in gift bags. At each place setting there were sugar cookies from the Ugly Sweater decorating kit with small tubes of frosting for decorating. The seniors were encouraged to decorate the sugar cookies at their table and most of them did.
There were also ballots at each table for voting for the ugliest sweater at each of the 22 tables. Each of the 11 winners came before the room and modeled their sweater. When the votes were tallied their were 11 winning ugly sweaters. The final winner of the best Christmas outfit with his Grinch Christmas themed pajamas was Art Enke from Orangeville.
Commissioner Paul Cowley thanked everyone for coming and participating in the Ugly Sweater contest.
