In last week’s abbreviated schedule the Emery High Lady Spartans played just a single game. Emery defeated fourth-ranked Millard on Tuesday night and then saw their Thursday night game at Union High disappear because of the snow that came that day. The score of the Millard game was 53-31 Emery.
Emery and Millard started the game with the Eagles ahead most of the first quarter until Emery closed with seven points in their final four possessions. Megan Jensen scored seven points and Bailey Huggard scored five points as Millard could not stop Emery’s inside game. Emery led 14-10 at the end of the quarter after being down 10-7.
The second quarter stayed about the same offensively as they scored 14 points again in the period but defensively they got a little better as Millard made just three of ten shots. Millard was seven for 22 for the first half while Emery went 12 for 23. Kacelyn Toomer scored seven points in the second quarter to lead the Spartans.
The third quarter belonged entirely to the Lady Spartans as they scored on their first three possessions of the period on their way to jumping ahead due to a 13-0 run to start the quarter. Emery made eight of 11 shots in the quarter. Millard was able to make just one two-point field goal and a single free throw as Emery won the third quarter 17-3. Five players scored for Emery with Lainee Jensen and Megan Jensen each scoring four points to lead the way.
Emery’s younger players played the final minutes of the game and Millard won the final quarter eleven to eight. Megan led the way with 14 points and Bailey also ended in double figures with 11 points. Kacelyn and Kinlee Toomer each scored 9 points and Lainee scored 4 for the game. Also scoring were Erin Hurst, Kira Saling and Morgan Hurdsman with 2 points each. Lainee led the team with 9 rebounds while Kinlee led with 4 assists and Bailey led with 3 steals.
Emery will resume action on January 3 at home against Beaver. It has not been determined when the Union game will be played.
