Emery girls defeat Beaver, Manti and Union

Three games in a single week did not interfere with the Emery High Lady Spartans challenge of playing strong as they enter region action. The Emery team opened play after the Christmas break with a game against Beaver on Tuesday and prevailed in that game 48-30 against the fifth ranked Beavers. On Thursday night Emery traveled to Manti to open region 15 play and defeated the Templars 62-16 with Manti getting half their points in the final quarter. Emery then traveled to Roosevelt to play the Union Cougars in a make-up game and defeated the Cougars 80-47.
Emery now possesses a 10-1 season record and a 1-0 region record. Five Lady Spartans scored in the Beaver game with Megan Jensen and Kinlee Toomer leading the way with 11 points each. Kacelyn Toomer and Morgan Hurdsman were right behind with 9 points each and Lainee Jensen scored 8 points to close out the scoring. Kacelyn led the team with 15 rebounds, 4 assists and added 4 blocked shots. Megan added 10 rebounds and 3 assists and had 5 blocked shots. Emery led 13-6 after the first quarter and 28-12 at the half.
Against Manti, 11 different players scored in this game as Coach Tuttle substituted freely once the game was in control. Megan led the team with 14 points as she went five for eight from the field and four for four at the line. Kacelyn scored 13 points as she went five for nine from the field. Morgan scored 10 points as she went two for two from behind the three-point line and also two for two in front of the line. Kinlee scored 7 points and went three for five from the field.
Also, scoring in the game were Ambree Bennett with 5 points, Madisyn Alton and Hailey Jo Allred with 3 points, Taijah Price, Kira Saling and Bailey Huggard with 2 points each and Adri Childs with 1 point. Kacelyn led the team with 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
In Roosevelt, Emery led 23-8 after the first quarter and 53-22 at the half as once again the Lady Spartans rolled from the beginning of the game. Emery increased the lead to 71-20 at the end of three periods. Lainee Jensen led the team in this game with 18 points as she made 5 three-pointers. Kinlee added 15 points, Kacelyn scored 13 points and Morgan scored 11 points. Also scoring were Megan with 7 points, Madisyn with 6 points, Ambree with 4 points, Taijah with 3 points and Allred, Saling and Huggard with 1 point each. Lainee also had 11 rebounds to lead the team.
This week Emery will host a pair of region games. Gunnison will be in town on Tuesday evening and preseason favorite North Sevier will be in town Thursday.
