Last Wednesday night the Emery High wrestling team closed out their 2016-17 home schedule with a match against a ranked 3-A team from Canyon View High School of Cedar City, Utah. Canyon View won the match 55-21 with the assistance of the Spartan team not fielding a wrestler in four weight classes, thus giving 24 points to the Falcons.
Before the match the Emery coaching staff honored the two seniors on this season’s team. Ty Mecham and Duke Curtis are the two seniors on this year’s squad. The coaching staff gave out candy bars to all Emery High wrestling alumni in attendance as a way of saying thanks for helping to build the program.
Emery will travel this Friday and Saturday to Richfield and will wrestle in the divisional tournament in preparation for the next week’s 2-A Utah State tournament that will be held at Utah Valley University.
Emery had four individual winners during the match. Dax Hall at 113 pounds, Ty Mecham at 220 pounds and AC Reeve at 285 pounds all won their bouts by way of pin. Mecham and Reeve pinned their man in the second period while Hall had to wait until the final period. Gus Dalton defeated his opponent with an overtime decision. The match was 2-2 going into overtime and Dalton got a takedown for the win.
Zach World at 126 pounds, Teagan Christman at 145 pounds and Lon Huntsman at 160 pounds were all pinned by their man. Korby Christiansen and McKay Meccariello lost by technical fall and Chase Christiansen lost by way of decision. Chase’s score was 2-1.
