Emery wrestling qualifies 11 for state tourney

The Emery High wrestling team qualified 11 wrestlers for this weeks’ 2-A Utah State wrestling tournament that will be held at Utah Valley University on Friday and Saturday. The Spartans participated at the 2-A Divisionals held last week in Richfield at the Sevier Valley Center.
Senior Ty Mecham and sophomore Gus Dalton won their division and they will go into the state meet as one of the favorites in their weight class. Mecham finished the season with a 38-7 season record and will wrestle in the 285-pound weight class. Dalton wrestles in the 138-pound weight class and possesses a 34-15 season record.
Sophomore McKay Meccariello finished the season with a 28-20 record and finished second in the 132-pound weight class. Aaron Reeve also wrestles in the 285-pound weight class and finished third in the tournament. Reeve’s season record was listed at 7-1.
Also placing in the top eight of their respective division and will now make the trip to UVU are Korby Christiansen in the 106-pound class, Chase Christiansen in the 113-pound weight class, Trace Funk in the 120-pound class, Zachary World in the 126-pound class and Klint Allred, also in the 132-pound weight class.
Newt Oveson will wrestle in the 160-pound weight class after finishing with a 29-10 season record. Duke Curtis, a senior wrestling in his first year of high school wrestling in the 195-pound weight class also will travel up north.
