Entering the final week of the region 15 boys’ basketball season the Emery High Spartans are solidly in first place with an 8-0 region record. Emery is followed by Grand High at 7-2, San Juan at 6-2, Manti at 2-6, Gunnison Valley at 2-7 and North Sevier at 0-8. Emery has just two games remaining on the schedule before the play-offs begin but those two games are on the road against the teams in second and third place in the region. Emery will play at San Juan on Wednesday and then will play at San Juan on Friday. Win both games then the Spartans are region champs, win just one game and the Spartans are still region champs. If not, then region 15 could have co-region champions with the Spartans being one of those.
Last week Emery defeated Gunnison Valley 76-45 and North Sevier 63-46. Emery won the first, third and fourth quarters against the Bulldogs to easily win the game. Emery led Gunnison 46-33 going into the final quarter and then won that final period 30-12 to easily win the game.
Koby Butler scored 33 points to power the team to the win as he made 11 of 15 shots in the game for a 73 percent shooting percentage. Koby was also 10 of 11 at the line and made his only three-point shot attempt. Koby also grabbed 15 rebounds and had 2 blocked shots and had committed just a single personal foul.
Bowdie Jacobsen scored 13 points, had 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Kyson Stilson scored 9 points, Kolton Butler scored 6 points and had 11 rebounds, Easton Gordon and Zach Jorgensen each scored 5 points, Brax Jensen scored 3 points and Keaton McDermott scored 2 points.
Against North Sevier, Emery led the game the entire way but the 0-8 in region 15 team kept at the Spartans and made them earn the game. Emery led 17-14 after the first quarter and 29-25 at the half. Emery continued building their lead in the third quarter as led 40-32 after the quarter ended. Emery then won the fourth period 23-13 to win the game.
Koby led the team with 19 points and Bowdie scored 18 points. Zach scored 10 points, Easton 9 points, Kolton 5 points and Kyson 2 points.
