Emery High hosts clubs and organizations assembly

By DANYALE SERVICE

On August 25, Emery High School students gathered in the old gym to learn and become aware of all the different clubs and organizations that all students can participate in. “The whole purpose of this assembly is for you (the students) to get involved,” announced Principal Gordon. High School can be a confusing time, when you are a student, if you are not involved with extracurricular activities. With the difficult classes, a new schedule, and unknown peers, being involved in school activities will allow all students to appreciate and get excited to attend school. Some clubs that the school will be offering are:
* FCCLA (Family Career Community Leadership Association) This organization focuses on family and will be traveling to Atlanta, Georgia in July. * National Honor Society looks good on scholarships. Students must maintain a 3.6 GPA and complete a 10-hour service project. * Sterling Scholars is a prestigious organization for Seniors. Students are chosen by the Department Leaders and represent the school in one of 14 various categories. * Emery FFA (Future Farmers of America) is a club that helps student promote their skills and projects that they have completed.
* High School Youth Coalition honors students who follow the drug-free program. * Forensics (Speech and Debate) allows students to compete in contests against other schools in a war of words. * EHS Science Club will have the students complete projects and attend an interactive trip. On Science Day, they will visit the University of Utah and explore the world of science. Also, Science Club will be going on ski and snowboarding trips. * Student Council have been elected by the Student Body. They organize all the school activities and dances. * Peer Tutoring allows fellow peers to help classmates with difficult assignments.
This is the only club that pays the students for helping. * Service Club was organized for students to get involved in the community and service others. * Pep Band supports the football and basketball teams at each game with exciting music that pumps up the crowd. * Robotics Club explores technology through building robots and entering national competitions.
* FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) * Math Club solves difficult math equations and will include chess tournaments. * Readers and Writers Club will excite students to read and expression through creative writing. Emery High staff would like to remind everyhone if you have a high school student to help them get involved in the various programs the school has to offer.
