Huntington City Council discusses flooding during storm events

At the August meeting of the Huntington City Council, construction projects and the storm drain system were the big items of discussion. The Council also approved a business license for ADT to come to town selling alarm services and a license for the Emery County Progress to move their offices to Huntington.
The first construction item discussed was a sidewalk proposal to do four blocks in Huntington with all blocks being on the west side of town. B Hansen Construction got the bid with the bid coming in under budget and about half of the second place bid. Mayor Gordon said that the walking path going in along 400 East between Highway 10 and 400 North is progressing and should be finished soon.
Councilman Guymon said the new restroom facility/tourist stop in the City Park should be completed and open full-time with the installation of the natural gas line.
A recent rain storm once again showed the deficiency of the storm drain system in the city as drains back up and cannot handle all the water that falls. The system has bigger lines that run into smaller lines at various places which cause lakes to form on city streets.
