The Orangeville City Council held their September meeting where the topic of Ken Cropper’s motocross track was discussed. Cropper was given time on the agenda.
His property is at 125 East Center St. in Orangeville. He has built a motocross type track on his property near the Cottonwood Creek in Orangeville.
The mayor and members of the City Council had received complaints from residents living near Cropper’s property about motorcycle riders causing dust and noise in violation of Orangeville City nuisance ordinances. Cropper also received a letter from the Orangeville City lawyer to cease and desist allowing this activity on his property. Cropper felt he was providing a service to the young people of the city by allowing them to ride their motorcycles and other vehicles on his motorcycle track.
Cropper had petitions in hand from Orangeville residents disagreeing with the letter Ken had received from the Orangeville city lawyer. Orangeville residents were also in the meeting to voice opposition to Ken Cropper’s motorcycle track activities.
They objected to the loud noise and the dust caused by the activities on Ken Cropper’s property. Stephen Ore was in favor of helping Cropper move the motorcycle riding activity to a more suitable location.
The Orangeville City Council agreed that Ken Cropper’s motorcycle track activities on his property are a violation of the current city nuisance ordinances.
The Orangeville city Council agreed to cancel the November 7, 2017 Orangeville General Municipal Election as there were sufficient candidates to fill the seats of council members whose terms would be completed.
There was one Mayor candidate and two Counci lmember candidates that registered to be elected. Since there were no opposing candidates they will be automatically seated on the Council in January 2018.
Orangeville Council member Kent Wilson resigned from his post as councilman due to his being appointed the new Emery County Commissioner.
Wilson was thanked by members of the City Council for his service in helping make Orangeville a better place to live.
The Orangeville city Council ratified the 2018 Castle Valley Special Service District project list which includes curb and gutter construction along the Orangeville Cemetery Road.
The Orangeville city Council also ratified the paying of the final payment to Nelco Contractors for work performed in the Orangeville City Welcome Park and the installation of public restrooms there.
A discussion was held about installing a plaque in the Orangeville Community Center commemorating the service of the first Orangeville volunteer Fire Department members.
Orangeville Day for the year 2018 will be held July 21 and the Orangeville City Employee Christmas party will be held December 5. Before the meeting adjourned it was announced that the secondary water will be turned off about Oct. 1.
