Emery High will host the Carbon Dinos in the first round of the 3-A Utah State girls’ soccer tournament this Wednesday at 4 pm. Emery finished second in region 15 with an 8-2 region record behind the number one ranked Manti that finished 10-0. Carbon finished sixth in region 14 with a 3-9 region record. The winner of the Spartan-Dino contest will face the winner of the Maeser Prep-North Sanpete game on Oct. 14.
If the Spartans win, they will host that game in Castle Dale at the high school field. The semi-finals will be held at Jordan High School and the finals will be held at Rio Tinto stadium.
For the season Alexis Winter finished the season with 21 goals scored and that was good enough to be second in the 3-A ranks and sixth overall in the state. Jocee Funk scored 14 goals and she finished third in 3-A.
Mileena McElvaney had three shut-outs as goalie and she was sixth in 3-A. Last week Emery closed region 15 action against Richfield and the Spartans won that game 5-0 with Winter scoring three times in the game and Addy Healy and Morgan Hurdsman each scoring one time.
