Editor’s notes by Patsy Stoddard

I was reminded the other night at the Carbon/Emery game of the Shaun Bradley basketball days at Emery High. Dusty Butler was remembering the days in the old gym when it was packed wall to wall and every space even the steps up the bleachers were covered in people. It would be fun to have a Shaun Bradley again to watch but even now we have that opportunity to watch a very good boys and girls basketball team. How many people take advantage of all that is offered at the schools and the county in general.
I am very lucky to be able to attend as many things in the county as I can.
There was the Green River light parade, Huntington Christmas, Orangeville Christmas, Clawson Christmas, Cleveland Christmas, choir concerts, band concerts, plays and programs at each of the schools.
If you miss the plays at Emery High, or the community theatre you have really missed out, because these productions are always entertaining.
This week, Elf the Musical will be presented at Emery High. I saw the preview and it’s fabulous. Of course, I am a Christmas addict and love anything to do with the holidays.
Elf the movie has long been a favorite of mine and watching Buddy live on stage is super fun. Legally Blonde was great fun. I took along my 5 and 6 year old grandkids and they loved it. They live in Salt Lake and they want me to come and get them to go to Elf.
You don’t need a child or grandchild involved to attend the concerts and plays. Be supportive of what these young people are doing. You will enjoy it and you’ll get away from the TV for some live entertainment.
The Huntington third graders today presented the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. It’s so fun to watch these children memorize parts and sing the songs.
I look forward to seeing how the basketball teams do this season.
I look forward to the spring sports, baseball, softball, soccer and track. The swim team always puts on a great show. Did you know we have one of the state’s fastest track stars right at Emery High. Did you know the cross country team took first in state. We are very fortunate to live in such a great place.
People sometimes say there isn’t anything to do here, but they’re wrong, there is tons to do and see you just have to get out of the house and participate.
Get out there and have some fun and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I love the New Year’s because we have a chance to do everything again. It’s my Valentine Carnival, then Easter and picnics and sports and camping and then fall again and Thanksgiving and Christmas. I hope you enjoy your new year.
