Emery versus Richfield in Region 15 girls’ basketball, Tuesday night in Castle Dale will be a game to determine the region champion. Tuesday night’s game should be a good one.
In Region 15 Richfield sits all alone in first place as the season hits the mid-mark with a record of 6-0 with the Spartans right behind with a 5-1 region record, the loss coming at Richfield to start the region season.  The other five teams are basically out of any talk of region championship.  Richfield wins, region champ.  Emery wins, region co-champs and a shot.
Through the first half of the season Richfield marched through the region competition, minus the Emery game, with an average score of 51-26 that is dominant.  Emery is even better though, an average score of 78-29.  That is amazing.
Last week the Lady Spartans played two very similar games that were over just after they started.  Emery defeated Grand at home by the score of 97-24 and then defeated San Juan in Blanding by the score of 71-35.  The score at the end of the first quarter at home was 26-7 and on the road was 34-5, games over just after they started.
In Blanding Emery won the second quarter 16-7, the third quarter 15-9 before San Juan won the final period 14-6. At home Emery won the second quarter against Grand 18-3 to lead 44-10 at the half, won the third quarter 31-8 and the final period 22-6.
Scoring for Emery against Grand was Kacelyn Toomer and Lainee Jensen with 17 points each, Megan Jensen, Morgan Hurdsman and Bailey Huggard with 12 points each, Kinlee Toomer and Hailey Jo Allred with 7 points each, Bethany Justice with 4 points, Makieya Bertuzzi with 3 points and Brileigh Curtis, Hanna Huntington, JoJo Peterson, Kiri Cook and Tayden Nielson with 2 points each.
Scoring against San Juan was led by Megan with 22 points and she also had 14 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.  Lainee scored 16 points, had 6 assists, 4 steals and 2 rebounds while Kinlee scored 11 points, had 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals as three Spartans ended the game in double figures.  Bailey had 6 points with 6 rebounds and 4 steals while Kacelyn had 7 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.  Morgan ended with 4 points and Kiri and Tayden each scored 2 points.
This Tuesday night it will be 14-1 Richfield at 15-1 Emery with game time set for 7 pm. Thursday night South Sevier will be in town with game also starting at 7 pm.
