Orangeville City Council held their regularly scheduled meeting Jan. 11 to swear in the newly re-elected Mayor and members of the City Council. Those Council Members sworn in by City Recorder Ruanne Leeflang were Carole Larsen, Brandon Hoffman and Mayor Roger Swenson.
Mayor Roger Swenson made several remarks praising former city council member Kent Wilson and now an Emery County Commissioner for moving things ahead in Orangeville and in Emery County. The mayor then presented Kent Wilson with a decorative clock for his use and thanked him for his service. Kent Wilson is a great asset to Emery County and Orangeville.
Council member Carole Larsen displayed a decorative plaque made of granite, made by Worley Jensen Monuments of Price and Kelly Larsen the son of Carole Larsen.
The plaque is to be mounted on the restroom at Orangeville City, Creek View Park also known as the Welcome Park.
This new restroom was constructed and placed in the Creek View Park for the convenience of visitors to Orangeville and more especially for the boulderers that use our local canyons to climb the large boulders that have fallen from the mountain sides.
The inscription on the plaque is as follows: Orangeville City Creek View Park Restrooms, constructed 2017, funded by UDOT, Orangeville city, special thanks to Sen. David Hinkins, Johansen and Tuttle Engineering, Emery County Economic Development, Nelco Construction, CXT, LB Foster.
The Orangeville City Council also discussed the contract and the waiver of rental fees for certain organizations, deposits and cleaning fees for the use of the Orangeville City Community Center also known as The Old Firehouse.
They discussed the items they would like to have presented to the Community Impact Board for funding.
Alan Childs the Zoning Administrator reviewed the number of building permits and zoning adjustments that have been made in the last few months of 2017.
Councilmember Brandon Hoffman reported traps are set in several places around Orangeville for the trapping of stray cats and dogs.
He reported more than 100 cats have been given to the local veterinarian to be put down. No one has as yet come forward to claim any lost cats.
