Only two weeks remain in the region basketball season for the Emery High boys’ team, just four games in those two weeks and each and every game is important as the seven region teams battle for the six spots available in the first round of the 3-A Utah State playoffs.
Last week the Spartans traveled twice to Sevier County and each time returned home with a loss.
Emery lost to Richfield on Wednesday by the score of 71-59 and then they lost to South Sevier by the score of 85-72.
Grand High leads the region with a 7-2 record followed closely by South Sevier at 6-2. Manti is at 4-4, Richfield is 3-4, Emery is 3-5, North Sanpete is 3-6 and San Juan is 3-6.
Emery will travel to both North Sanpete and San Juan in the next two weeks and the Spartans will host Manti and Grand. Winning at home is important if the Spartans want to continue to post-season play.
At Richfield Emery led 13-12 after the first quarter but trailed 28-27 at the half. Emery tied the score after three quarters at 46-46 but was outscored 25-13 in the final quarter to get the loss.
At South Sevier, Emery led 20-18 after the first quarter and 36-30 at the half. The two teams were tied 52-52 after three periods but lost the final quarter 33-20 to get another loss. Two games they were in until the final period.
Scoring against Richfield for Emery were Tyler Butler and Kyson Stilson with 14 points apiece, Brax Jensen with 12 points, Easton Gordon with 9 points and Cade Brazier with 8 points. Alex Orozco scored 2 points off the bench. Scoring against South Sevier was Gordon with 23 points, Stilson with 22 points, Brazier with 12 points, Jensen with 8 points, Justin Rasmussen with 3 points and Butler and Orozco with 2 points each.
Emery will travel to Mt. Pleasant this Wednesday for a game against North Sanpete and then will host Manti on Friday. Game time each night is 7 p.m.
