Winning poems:
Dawn is breaking
By: Amy Sorensen
A quiet peaceful sensation
The sky painted a slur of colors
An unhindered slumber
Birds chirrup in the treetops
Buds burst open
In the light of the early morning
Music plays outside my window
A soft breeze whistling through the branches
Valentine’s Day
By: Audri Stilson
On Valentine’s Day,
Roses are red and also pink
chocolates, oh what a treat.
Heart shaped cookies with icing so sweet,
Valentine’s Day is almost complete.
Love is in the air
with such a romance to spare.
Time to show your significant other you truly care.
Tangy-tart candy is always dandy
or even a big stuffed teddy bear with a bouquet of pansies.
Everyone loves jewelry, there is no doubt in our minds,
to be treated like a king or queen, sounds so divine.
Valentine’s Day comes once a year,
let’s all spread cheer and have a good time!
Merry Go Round
By: Courtney Behling
Round and round we go
To the bathroom we go
Now we got to go
on the bus with wheels that go
like a balloon about to pop.
I got to go to the restaurant.
After that I got to sleep
like Mary Bo Peep.
For this time I got to go
for real, and real we go.
Emotional Climate
By: Taneesha Patel Paul
The sound of thunder crashes into my ears sending waves through my body;
As I move further and further away it is slowly put to rest.
As the thunder fades behind me, all there is to be, is rain;
Beating ever so softly onto my eyes and trickling down my cheek.
The more and more warmth I feel of hope, the more the rain dies down.
As the confidence grows, I see the light shine through the fog, creating a sense of security.
The light creates a spark of enlightenment as it peaks through.
The fog seeps into the ground, while the sun peaks out of the shadows.
As the sun is shown, inside there is a pang of fear that quickly rushes over me,
that one day I will hear that thunder once more.
Cheer
By: Julie Sundstrom
Cheer as hard as you can
Be the best at what you do!
If you don’t think you are doing good…..
REMEMBER….
There is a little girl watching you
that thinks you are great and wants to be like you.
So be the example she needs you to be.
I am From a Slave’s Perspective
By: Katelyn Rowley
I am black and lonely,
I wonder what freedom is like
I hear the cracking of whips
I see I am bleeding
I am black and lonely
I want to be free with my family
I pretend that I am free with my family
I feel like I need to be there
I touch their minds
I worry that I won’t be there
I cry I won’t make it
I am black and lonely
I understand why I am a slave,
I say it doesn’t matter
I dream to be free with my family
I hope my master is nice to me cause,
I am black and lonely
Goosebumps stories
By: Shaely Walker
They give you chills,
They make you scream
Their silent eyes watch
You read
They’re silently
waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting patiently,
for attack
